ADVERSE WEATHER
In adverse weather the school may have to close due to the health and safety of the children and staff.
Please remember that this includes staff being able to travel in safely to work, and us having enough staff to operate safely. We have to make a judgement following travelling in to school, assessing the site and seeing whether it can be cleared, as well as checking that staff can make it in safely as well. Please bear this in mind when we are making our best efforts to open.
In the event that the school has to close we will notify parents via our messaging system Seesaw, as soon as possible.
Update for 9/01/2026
Weather Warning and arrangement for notifying parent / carers if school is open
The Met Office has upgraded its snow warning for Derbyshire to an Amber warning.
Heavy snow, associated with Storm Goretti, is likely to lead to disruption and dangerous travelling conditions Thursday night into Friday and so wanted to update all parents/carers of how we will notify you of any possible closures.
Where possible we will always try to open. This depends however on if we have enough staff on site and if the site can be cleared and is safe to move between buildings and on external stairs. Please be aware we have staff who travel from across Derbyshire, Derby and Nottingham which can impact on how many staff can get in to work. Staff may also not be able to come to work if their own children’s schools are closed.
We will notify parents/carers of any closures via Seesaw by 8am. (Please do not phone to ask if we are open as this slows down the process of us finding out how many staff can make it in for us to make a decision.)
If there is thick snow but we are able to open, please take extra care coming in. We will keep the registers open longer than normal to allow people to get in safely without being marked late and will notify you of when registers will close based on weather forecasts and conditions.
