GEOGRAPHY
โ
At Hallam Fields children explore a Geography curriculum that places them at the centre of where they live while relating it to other places around the world to help them compare and contrast where they live to different areas around the world. Throughout their journey at our school, children discover that Geography is more than just map work and extends much further in exploring extreme environments, investigating population growth, natural disasters and also where our food comes from! We carry out fieldwork opportunities within school and using our locality to bring Geography to life to create a love for Geography at Hallam Fields whilst connecting the classroom and the world around us together.
You will find below links to our overview of Geography and some examples of work, including fieldwork. There is also a range of many websites that you can access with engaging Geographic content!
We want our children to become curious and explorative thinkers in Geography in developing a more diverse knowledge of the world. We explore interesting topics which creates intrigue and knowledge of other localities, including our own and how they differ to each other. We also develop understanding of how humans link to the world around us and the impact we can have.

Geography is taught using a well-resourced scheme which encompasses locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography and geographical skills and fieldwork. It ensures a spiral curriculum approach in ensuring essential knowledge and skills are revisited to build on their previous learning through exploring different topics, offering a breadth of content covered. This ranges from understanding who lives in Antarctica, where our food comes from, exploring why oceans matter to discovering where our energy comes from. We ensure units across school contain geographical skills and research to ensure fieldwork opportunities are readily available to develop fieldwork skills such as questioning, observing, recording and presenting findings across a range of topics. There are opportunities to develop fieldwork skills within our school environment and area in enhancing our children’s understanding of their own locality while comparing it to various places around the world to promote a greater understanding of the world around us.
Geography is celebrated across school through a ‘Certificate of Excellence in Geography’ presented to children to promote progress and recognise their efforts and achievements in the subject. Additionally, the range of subjects covered allows our children to discover a love for Geography whilst developing a greater awareness of the subject in helping them discover our amazing world around us and the role that we play within it.
