School Travel Plan

Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.

The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children.

Hallam Fields Junior School is currently working towards achieving bronze level.

Children continue to learn about road safety and the school takes part in the local authority's Travel Smart week which happens twice a year.

We also have cycle trainers from  Bikeability who come in to school to teach children how to safely ride a bike.

At Hallam Fields we have identified that due to our site, it is really difficult for children to come to school on either bikes or scooters.  This is something we are trying to work on with Derbyshire County Council to look at ways we could allow children to come to school in a more active way.  We are also trying to work with them to address the issues with safety outside of school, giving parents and children more space to stand.  We hope that we will be able to improve both of these issues to make it safer and healthier for all.
